The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) has brought in a minor change in the Indian National Rally Championship calendar for 2011. The change has been made necessary for the dates of the Durgapur Rally which was earlier coinciding with the dates for the state elections in West Bengal. Slated to be held higher up on the 2011 INRC calendar, the Durgapur Rally will now form the final round of proceedings in INRC 2011 and will be held between 16th – 18th December. The season kicks off with the Nashik Rally on 2nd June after which the event will move on to Chennai – a venue that has been absent from the INRC schedule for a while now and finds a welcome re-inclusion this year at the end of June. This will be followed by rounds in Coimbatore in July, Bangalore in August, Chimaglur in November and Bhubaneshwar in early December before heading off to Durgapur for the season finale.
The prize money has also been revised for the 2011 season with winners in each of the classes now getting Rs 1 lakh. An Open Cup for diesel and petrol vehicles upto 3000cc has also been factored into proceedings. The diesel class will be divided into vehicles upto 1600cc and between 1601-3000cc while the turbocharged induction factor will be applied to these classes. This will now become a support class for INRC as is the case with the Gypsy Cup and the 1400 Star Cup. The INRC season will brew up to becoming an exciting one with the 2010 contenders Gaurav Gill, Naren Kumar and Vikram Mathias battling it out with fresh hopefuls in 2011.
