Raid de Himalaya

Raid de Himalaya

The Raid, as it’s commonly known, is one of the toughest rallies held annually in India. The event flags off from Shimla and runs through Manali, Leh, Kargil, Rangdum to culminate in the beautiful valley of Srinagar. The rally traverses some rather unchartered territory with breathtaking landscapes. There is a novice category for first timers to get to grips with the thrills of rallying in the Himalayas. The six days, covering over 2500 kilometres in the mountains, make for a life changing experience. It’s the ultimate adventure to bond with your dad in.

Desert Storm

The Desert Storm is possibly the finest rally in India as of today. Though not as hazardous as the Raid, this six-day rally can be rather demanding. The rally flags off from Delhi and travels through the Rajasthan desert to the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat. Unlike the Raid where you have to rough it out in tents and army camps, the Desert Storm provides heritage hotel night halts. In effect you get to enjoy the joys of rallying during the day and unwind at beautiful hotels at night. The demands on the driver and navigator are the true test of any rally and this works great to build friendships and bonds. If your dad isn’t the mountain type and likes to have fun yet end his day with a chilled beer, then the Desert Storm is ideal.

Mahindra Monastery Escape

Mahindra Monastery Escape

This ten-day journey through the Himalayas isn’t a rally and therefore allows you to soak in the scenery at a more leisurely pace. With vehicles provided by Mahindra, you can be part of the convoy that winds its way through the mountains and offers you enough breaks along the way to soak in the culture, try the cuisine, and generally have a wonderful road trip that part of an adventure packaged tour. The organisers ensure that there is enough entertainment and that you don’t have to rough it out. Essentially the Monastery Escape fits the bill of being the ultimate road trip, which is a great way to spend time with your dad.
