Yamaha announced that its second manufacturing plant based in Tamil Nadu will commence production soon

Yamaha India’s second manufacturing plant will be operational soon. The second Yamaha manufacturing plant will be located in Vallam Vadagal in Kancheepuram district, Tamil Nadu. The Japanese two-wheeler giant will invest a total of Rs 1,500 crore in the Vallam Vadagal plant in a phased manner. 

The new plant will play a crucial role in increasing the presence in the Indian two-wheeler market. The new production facility will have an initial capacity to produce 4.5 lakh units per annum. Yamaha claims this figure will be hiked to 18 lakh units by 2018 when the plant will be functional to its full capacity. Yamaha India currently has a production plant in Surajpur, Uttar Pradesh with a production capacity of 10 lakh units. Apart from this it also has a production unit in Faridabad, Haryana that manufacturers machined parts like gears & shafts, crank, clutch assembly etc.

Demand for Yamaha two-wheeler has increased on a consistent basis in the recent past. The hike in demand can be credited to its scooters which have been warmly received by Indian two-wheeler consumers. For 2014, Yamaha India launched two new products, the Alpha scooter and the Yamaha FZ-S FI both the products clocking decent sales figures.
