Ferrari has always loved the exclusivity that its brand name holds. And it is no wonder that the Italian supercar maker was never bothered by the numbers. That however might change in the years to come. The Maranello-based car maker is looking to increase its production in the near future.

The Scarlet brand has been fairly stable in terms of its finances in recent times; however, with an increase in sales the company wants to further boost profits. A filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission hints towards its expansion plans in emerging markets to make the most of the ‘spending capacity’ among wealthy buyers.

Former Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo believed in keeping the brand restricted to the high flyers with limited production. Current chairman Sergio Marchionne however is of a different belief. Even though at first Sergio Marchionne promised to keep the annual volume restricted to 7,000 units, after taking over as chairman, he has been considering increasing the number to 10,000 units.

As part of its growth plans, Ferrari intends to bring in a new model every year till 2018. And to ensure just that, the Prancing Horse has been working on a new modular aluminium space frame. This chassis is expected to underpin all its future models including the next-generation Calilfornia that is expected to debut in 2017.
