February 2014 two-wheeler sales figure
Two-wheeler manufacturers in the country have released their respective sales figures of February 2014. The month seemed good for most of the major two-wheeler manufacturers in the country as they were able to increase their sales. The sales figures for Bajaj however saw a dip, while TVS and Suzuki haven’t released their sales figures yet.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd (HMSI) rocked in terms of sales as it reported an overall growth of 44 per cent for February 2014. The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer managed to sell 1,52,487 units of motorcycles and 1,76,034 units of scooters. The rise in sales has increased Honda’s domestic market share to 26 per cent while its exports increased by six per cent. Honda also announced that its fourth plant in the country will be operational in Gujarat by 2015. This will help the bikemaker in reducing waiting periods for its two-wheeler offerings.
Mahindra Two Wheelers Ltd. (MTWL) marked an incredible growth rate of 207 per cent with the sales of 18,553 units in February 2014. This surge in sales figure can be credited to its commuter offering Centuro, which has been warmly received by the consumers due to its innovative features. The bike was also our pick as the 2013 Commuter Bike of the year at the recently concluded 2013 ZigWheels Awards. Mahindra also added a cheaper variant of its commuter offering, christened the Centuro N1, which is Rs 2,000 cheaper than the standard motorcycle. Mahindra also announced that it has expanded its sales and service network to over 1000 touch points across the country and are adding 2 new outlets every day.
Hero MotoCorp registered sales of 504,181 units of two-wheelers for February 2014 as compared to 5,01,271 units it managed in the corresponding month last year. According to the country’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer it expects sales to increase, owing to the reduction in excise duty in the Interim Budget 2014.
