It’s been just a couple of months since we drove the all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class during its global media drive in Europe, and already the company has introduced a new long-wheel-base version of the luxury car.
The first-ever long-wheel-base version of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class has begun production at the company’s manufacturing facility in Beijing, China, making it the fourth facility to begin manufacturing the new ‘C’ model, worldwide.
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class L is specifically developed for China, which is a key market for the German luxury car maker. Like India, car buyers in China prefer to be chauffeur-driven and the focus of car manufacturers is back seat comfort.
Keeping these needs in mind, the China-specific car has its wheelbase stretched by 80mm, to 4,766mm offering more generous cabin space and more importantly extra knee-room for the backseat. This version of C-Class also has a special feature using which the passenger seat can be pushed forward by passengers sitting on the back seat to create extra legroom.
Furthermore, this Chinese specific version will also have a host of features including a semi-autonomous driving pilot and a touchpad that recognises Chinese handwriting.
Speaking about the long-wheel-base C-Class, Hubertus Troska, member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for China said, “The C-Class is at the core of our development in China. With more than 150,000 vehicles of the predecessor model delivered to customers, China has already become the second-largest market for the C-Class,”
He added, “Now we are taking the next step: designed and developed for China, produced exclusively in China, our all-new long-wheelbase C-Class is destined to become one of our top growth drivers here.”
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class L will launch in China this September. There is no official confirmation whether Mercedes-Benz India will introduc this verion of the all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class in our country.
