E Locker - Eaton Technology

Amongst a pool of diversified automobile and heavy vehicle component manufacturers present at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo in a big way is Eaton Corporation, which having celebrated its centennial year in 2011 now starts off the new year with great ambitions and products adequately matched to fulfill not just their ambitions, but also the evolving needs of a matured and forward thinking automobile industry.

Gaining an insight into the real-time applications of these highly engineered niche automotive components was only possible courtesy a candid conversation with some of the top crop of Eaton’s global and India operations.

Surrounded by the an elaborate exhibition of Eaton’s top of the line power management tools and solutions on display at the 2012 Auto Expo, Kenneth F. Davis, Global president - Vehicle Group, Eaton Corporation and John Coll, Vice President, Global Marketing, Vehicle Group were quite upfront on the company’s clear focus Eaton has been known to work with high-performance automobile manufacturers the likes of Audi and Land Rover for supply of superchargers and safety components that as we see it have done wonders for them. So where does Eaton fit into the Indian context was the question.

6 Speed Transmission

According to Kenneth Davis, “Superchargers have traditionally been known high performance engines and that has been the case over the last two years. But the increasingly growing trend of using superchargers in small capacity engines is now a reality and this has helped to significantly increase fuel economy.”

“There are lot of technologies to downsize engines for more power from lower displacement engines with the help of superchargers and turbochargers. However our uniqueness lies in our ability to not just downsize but also downspeed them, which helps achieve better efficiency and performance," he added.

A lot of Eaton’s newer applications like newly developed hollow valve technologies and an even more promising a automatic-manual transmission combination system is expected to gain a lot of traction in India in near future.

Traction control technologies are also one of Eaton’s specialties and at the Auto Expo 2012 Eaton is displaying its ELocker, MLocker, Suretrac, Truetrac, No Spin and Limited Slip Differential products. A variety of transmission, heavy-duty clutches, and the most notable of all their Hybrid powertrain technologies that continue to find great application in commercial vehicles the world over are also on display.
