Eaton Corporation is a 100 year old company that has been dealing in diversified power management solutions. The company has been developing energy-efficient buildings, cities, aircrafts, cars, trucks, machines and next-generation infrastructure for a cleaner and greener planet.
In India that Eaton Corporation already has forayed into the automobile, electrical and hydraulics industries. The company has recently introduced a variable overhead valvetrains and cylinder deactivation system. The new variable valvetrain system is designed to be integrated in high speed overhead camshaft in India with the aim of increasing fuel efficiency.
“This new fuel efficient product will prove to be of maximum value to our customers. This move will enhance our business presence in the market and compliment the wide product portfolio that already exists in the country,” said Raja Kochar, managing director India.
Ramchandra Rao, executive director – India, Automotive Division, Eaton, said, ““These offerings represent substantial cost savings for the consumer and we are glad to expand our portfolio in India. We optimized the system in response to the growing consumer demand for overhead cam, multi-valve engines.”
The variable valvetrains use the Electronic Combustion Unit (ECU) to remap the valve operation of an engine to manage variable valve lift off systems to eliminate the trade off between fuel economy and performance. Eaton’s variable valvetrain system can increase fuel efficiency by as much as 7% when combined with the existing camshaft phaser technology. The new system has the ability to switch valve lift profile to manage both performance and economy at the same time for different cylinders.
Eaton India has also introduced cylinder deactivation system which is used in performance cars with big engines to deactivate a certain number of cylinders under partial throttle so as to improve fuel economy when the driver does not demand performance.
The systems will be interchangeable so that car manufacturers in India who use the same engine in different cars with different power outputs will be able to utilize the technology in all their engines. The technology can also be implemented by car manufacturers who use the same family engines across different markets with different emissions norms and power output.
