Mercedes-Benz has officially taken the wraps off its svelte new S-class coupe, the S65 AMG. This new two-door model packs a V12 engine which promises to offer even more punch than the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG that the German carmaker has already revealed.

The styling differences between the S65 AMG coupe and the S63 AMG coupe are subtle. Chrome detailing helps the new two-door coupe model stand out from the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG coupe, most notably upfront, where it replaces the black mesh finish for the grille and air intakes. Chrome inserts on the side skirts and the chrome trimmed exhaust tips at the rear give the S65 coupe a stylish look. The car sits on 20-inch alloy wheels that have been ceramically polished. Keeping the S65 in contact with the ground are 255/40 tyres upfont and 285/35 tyres at the rear.

The cabin is draped in Nappa leather and there is a  new three-spoke steering wheel linked to a speed-sensitive variable ratio setup. A standard head-up display projects the speedometer, as well as navigation instructions, traffic signs, speed limits and cruise control info, onto an 8.7-inch patch of windscreen ahead of the driver.

A 6.0-litre V12 twin-turbocharged engine runs under the hood of the Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG sedan delivering 630PS of power and a massive 1,000Nm of torque. This new two-door coupe can sprint from 0-100kmph in 4.1 seconds with a top-speed of 250kmph.

The S65 AMG coupe’s sports suspension setup incorporates the active curve titling function first seen in S63 AMG coupe. This function allows the car to lean into corners just like the motorcyclists do. This system in the S65 coupe has three driver selectable different modes and operates between 15kmph and 180kmph.

This function is paired with Road Surface Scan, which uses a stereo camera in the windscreen to monitor the road up to 15 metres ahead of the car. In addition to keeping an eye out for curves, it can spot bumps and undulations, and adjust the Magic Body Control suspension to suit.

The new Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG coupe is expected to be priced approximately at Rs 1.9 crore (exclusive of taxes and duties) and is expected to go on sale in Europe in mid-2015. Given the popularity of the AMG range in the Indian market, Mercedes-Benz India might consider to bring this high-performance two-door coupe to the country as well.
