Diesel cars now available at huge discounts!

Market slowdown leads to discounts on diesel models of Tata Indica, VW Polo, Maruti SX4, Ritz available at discounts

Tata Indica

The long waiting period and premium pricing for diesel cars are becoming history on weak consumer sentiment. In fact many diesel variants are now available off the shelf at discounts.

Off late, sales have muted forcing distributors to offer discounts on Tata Indica, Volkswagen Polo, Ford Figo, Maruti SX4 & Ritz, Fiat Punto, Nissan Micra and Verito. In some cases, the discounts are as high as Rs 50,000 a car on select models.

"We are offering discounts on diesel models in-line with the market competition. The slowing demand curve has affected sales of diesel cars too and these rebates are expected to keep the sales ticking," said Ford Motor India president & managing director Michael Boneham.

Diesel models gained massive sales momentum in the past few months on dual benefit of higher mileage and lower running costs of cheaper priced fuel. But with demand tapering off in recent times not all models are enjoying the same customer demand.

However, popular models such as Maruti's Swift and DZire models, Hyundai's i20 and Verna, and Tata Indigo CS still enjoy waiting of up to 6-8 months for their diesel variants across markets.

In fact, Maruti customer bookings swelled to over 1.25 lakh for the Swift and 65,000 for Dzire as its Manesar plant was out of production for more than a month due to an industrial lockout. The company now plans to produce these cars simultaneously in both the Manesar and Gurgaon plants to increase supplies.

I wonder how many of us know that diesel is costlier than petrol in international markets. In India it is sold cheap due to heavy govt subsidy...very soon a time will come that diesel subsidies will be withdrawn and then you may have to pay much more for diesel...do you know most of the diesel models are being produced by car manufacturers only to tap the Indian market...

When diesel prices are almost matching up petrol prices, why should one pay more for diesel cars, where the maintenance cost is very high compared to petrol cars, hence such huge discounts.

We always forget one point resale value for diesel car would me 1 lakh more than petrol car :)so no loss :) what ever u paid u will get back during resale.

They knew price of diesel will be increased and the demand is going to come down even for diesel cars.

With such huge population we do not have more options. Disel cars should not allowed to be manufactured or sold. Permit only the cars which run in petrol. Only bigger vehicles used for commercial purposes/mass transportation should allowed to be manufactured/sold with Diesel engines.

mr das..get a bigger brain..run it on diesel..

In India, cars are now used by labourers, small scale traders, plumbers to painters and almost all segments of people. Fine, India is becoming US like. But city traffic is becoming a nightmare. Even ambulances and fire engines are held up in traffic blocks. Causality on roads is frightening. But city rds cannot be widened beyond certain limit. A way out I suggest is i) Government should improve public transportation system ii) Should restrict ownership or registration of personal cars to those people who pay a minimum of Rs.25,000/- IT (with PAN card) and to those who have parking space at home. Road side parking at night should not be allowed. iii) People should give up false egos and use publc transport as much as possible.

tu karle public transport use bhai karna hai toh. I agree with traffic and all but it's stupid to restrict car ownership to those who pay atleast 25k (or any amount) IT. Eveywhere in the world, anyone can buy a car who can afford it. Who the hell are you to decide if I should buy it or not.
