Scheduled to launch in early 2014, Datsun Go-the first model to go on sale after 32 years; is all set to enter the budget hatchback market and give tough competition to its rivals that include the likes of Maruti Suzuki A-Star, Wagon R, Hyundai i10 and Chevrolet Beat amongst others.
Datsun vehicles including the Go will be sold directly through Nissan Motor in India and as it has been revealed earlier, the company has scheduled to launch five new models in India including the Go+. Vincent Cobee, global head of Datsun, said, "Selling the Datsun Go and future Datsun models through Nissan Motor represents a natural evolution of the company's operations in India, which are well recognized in the market. We are excited about launching the iconic Datsun brand in India and look forward to bringing a growing range of bespoke, locally-produced products and high level services to our customers."
He further added that an expanded model range will follow the introduction of the Datsun Go, a hatchback model that received positive reviews when it was revealed to the press and public earlier this year.
Datsun will work primarily with existing Nissan dealer investors who will sell Datsuns alongside Nissan's. This arrangement will in particular allow Datsun to rapidly establish a top quality, expansive retail network and open the brand to a large new segment straight from the first launch early next year.
Nissan is betting big on the Datsun brand creating the kind of reach only Maruti and Hyundai enjoy till now in the small car segment. The rapidly expanding dealer network will also benefit Nissan cars in the future.
