We all know the difference that anti-lock brake system (ABS) can make in an emergency situation; the importance gets considerably more when one puts motorcycle into perspective as there is a greater risk on two-wheels than four-wheels in a crash situation. But the size and shape of the ABS becomes a challenge for engineers when it comes to motorcycles as unlike cars they don’t have the liberty of space, to arrest this problem German automotive supplier, Continental has developed the new MK 100 MAB anti-lock brake system which is around 50% smaller and lighter compared to standard systems while also being cheaper.
The new two-channel ABS would make its world debut at the up-coming 2013 EICMA Motor Show in Italy starting November 7. By enhancing the sturdiness of the system, the MK 100 MAB can be adapted to different kinds of motorcycles depending upon its purpose like track riding, off-roading, street riding etc. The standard design of the new system includes not only the ABS function, but also a rear wheel lift-off protection system (RLP). The MK 100 MAB is compatible with most of the motorcycles on sale in the market and would initially go into series production in Europe from 2015 onwards.
