The international tyre manufacturer and automotive supplier, Continental, has officially launched the radial truck tyres in the Indian market. The company has commenced the production and distribution of the radial tyres which will be supplied to the truck and bus segment in the country. Continental has an initial annual production of 2,20,000 radial truck tyres, a dealer network of more than 1,400 outlets and sales & customer service teams in more than 70 cities across India. The company is rapidly spreading its wings across the country after acquiring the Indian tyre manufacturer, Modi Tyres, in 2011.
The truck tyre replacement market in India has a volume of approximately 1.4 crore units per year, out of which almost 40 lakh units are radial tyres, whereas the other one crore units are bias tyres. This market has grown by approximately 24 per cent over the last five years, and also seen a strong shift towards radial tyres. The demand for the radial tyres is expected to gain more momentum in the next few years.
Andreas Esser, Head, Commercial Vehicle Tyres Business, Continental, says, “Introducing Continental radial truck tires into the Indian market is a momentous occasion for us. India is the second largest market for truck tires in the Asia-Pacific region (APAC) and we strongly believe that our premium technology products, manufactured locally and distributed through our Indian market organization, will make Continental a preferred partner in the tire replacement and original equipment business.”
Continental is also a supplier of brake systems, systems and components for power trains and chassis, instrumentation, infotainment solutions, vehicle electronics and technical elastomers.
