Scheduled for a world premiere at the New York International Auto Show early April, the all-new Hyundai Santa Fe hints the future SUV avatars from the Korean car maker

Hyundai recently revealed teaser images of the new third-generation Santa Fe's exterior. The new Santa Fe adopts its own design concept called 'Storm edge', while taking cues from the Korean car maker's new 'fluidic design' language.

This unibody crossover SUV platform is now expected to feature many substantial changes not only in design but also in terms of the cutting-edge technology, good fuel economy and practical use of space.

Completing its aggressive look, which we think is better than its predecessor are the sophisticated and refined lines in harmony with bold and voluminous surfaces. The design also adopts the hexagonal grille–a key design cue of the Hyundai family look, a two-tone voluminous bottom car body, and wider front and rear bumpers.

A new extended version will also be offered in the US, most likely to replace the current Hyundai Veracruz featuring seven-seat configuration along with a redesigned engine available in both manual and automatic transmissions.

Dating back to its debut in the year 2000, the new Hyundai Santa Fe has clocked worldwide sales of over 2.56 million units (Korea: 680,000; Overseas: 1.95 million) till now. However, in India the Santa Fe hasn't quite managed to replicate its overseas success. Going by first impressions, the new model does look promising enough to change the SUV's fortunes when it launches in the country some time towards the end of 2012.
