Chevrolet will be launching the new Sail Sedan today at an expected price range of Rs 4.9 lakh to Rs 7.5 lakh

The Chevrolet Sail sedan, which is based on the Sail UVA hatchback, is here to pick up from where the Aveo left off. Expected to be priced similarly to the Maruti Suzuki DZire i.e between Rs 4.9 lakh and Rs 7.5 lakh, the Sail sedan will compete with the likes of the Swift DZire, Toyota Etios, Ford Classic, Mahindra Verito and the Tata Indigo eCS. Update: Chevrolet Sail sedan launched at a starting price of Rs 4.99 lakh

Judging by the Sail UVA hatchback’s well-equipped variant range, it appears the Sail sedan too would feature a decent equipment list across petrol and diesel variants. The only sore point is the slightly dull interior, which is also too similar to the hatchback. However, its full sized boot will undoubtedly give it an advantage over the successful Swift DZire.

Engine options will remain the same as that of the Sail UVA. The petrol motor is a 1.2-litre unit developing 86 PS @ 6000 rpm and 113 Nm @ 4400 rpm, while the diesel Sail sedan is powered by the Fiat-sourced 1.3 litre Multijet engine which develops 78 PS @4000 rpm and 205 Nm @ 1750 rpm.

With its spacious interiors, comfortable ride and decent equipment list, the Chevrolet Sail sedan makes a strong case for itself in the entry-level mid-size sedan segment. So long as Chevy gets the pricing right, the Sail sedan could bring in the numbers. And judging by the attractive pricing of the Sail UVA, Chevrolet sure seems to know what it needs to do to tickle the senses of the Indian car buyer.
