British sports car manufacturer soon to announce a Supersport roadster based on its car that competes in the Caterham Supersport championship

Specialist in lightweight sports cars Caterham will add to its Seven range with the new Supersport. Deriving the performance DNA from the race car and fine tuned for the streets this 140hp car is based on Colin Champman’s ideology of lightweight minimalist machines. These cars are brilliant to handle and give a larger thrill while driving.

The Caterham Supersport with the 1.6lire Ford Sigma engine

The new Supersport is powered by has a 1.6-litre Ford Sigma engine, but what makes the car exciting and track worthy is short shifting five-speed transmission, a feather-light fly wheel that allows the light car to rev up quickly, and prepared for race suspension that gives the new car fantastic handling dynamics. With the help of the Blue Oval engine the 520kg Brit car can go from 0-60mph (100km/h) in a skimpy 4.9seconds with a top speed of 120mph (192km/h). The car has 13” Avon rubbers. Loaned from elder racing cousin, the car features springs, dampers, stiffer anti-roll bars, and a track inspired dashboard. Even the seats and the four-point safety harness are inspired from the race car counterpart.

Caterham has made a name for itself in the trackday circles, producing some of the lightest yet grunty vehicles that usually excel on the racetrack. The retro looks of the Seven have also made it a very popular street car, despite its less-than-desirable practicality. The British sports car manufacturer has been producing cars for 38 years, and this on the road speedster will cost enthusiasts £22,995 (Rs. 16,62,000) as a factory made product and £19,995 (Rs. 14,45,000) as a Do it Yourself kit.
