Mazda MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary edition

azda has confirmed that the next generation of the MX-5 Miata roadster will be unveiled on September 03. This will be the fourth generation of the Miata in the cult roadster’s 25 years long span. While not much has been revealed about the MX-5, one thing Mazda does say is that the new car will be built on the recently developed Skyactiv chassis and that it will have a front engine rear wheel drive layout.

Focus on the new MX-5 is to lower its centre of gravity compared to the current model and reduce weight by more than 100kg. Another area of work is working on improving the new car’s rigidity and crash worthiness. The MX-5 is known to be a lightweight agile sportscar known for its fun to drive characteristics and Mazda is looking to build a reputation on these traits with its new car as well.

Mazda will simultaneously unveil the MX-5 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in the USA, Spain for the European market and in Japan. "We're excited to make this official, to announce that the newest member of the MX-5 Miata family will be arriving soon," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO).

Mazda had recently revealed a 25th anniversary edition of the MX-5 at the New York Auto Show and showcased the Skyactiv chassis that will underpin the new MX-5.
