The newly consolidated Dodge and SRT brands are on a roll, launching the new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT only a month after they launched the Dodge Challenger HEMI at the 2014 New York Auto Show. Now though, the two American powerhouses have launched yet another crazy muscle car, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat with over 600PS of peak power.
The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat will feature the most powerful V8 engine ever produced by Chrysler Group, the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8. This is the first time Dodge will ever give a factory fitted supercharger on a Dodge Challenger. In fact, Dodge claims that the stock engine crank is capable of withstanding pressures of over 1595psi while the crank dampers and pistons are rated to 13000rpm. The all-new V-8 engine can be mated with an upgraded six-speed manual transmission or a beefy, new TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic, the first such gearbox ever offered in the Dodge Challenger SRT's history.
Also for the first time ever, Dodge will offer two sets of keys with the Dodge Challenger Hellcat. The black keyfob is the standard keyfob while the red one will unlock the car to its maximum potential. The driver can also select a range of driving modes like Custom, Sport, Track and Default depending on how he would like the car to be set up.
The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat also gets the largest front brake package ever fitted on any Dodge SRT vehicle ever. The 15.4-inch Brembo discs with six piston callipers combined with newly tuned ABS, ESC and traction control systems make the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat stop as well as it goes.
The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat features some exclusive aerodynamic and visual cues on the exterior. This includes two cold air intake ports on the exterior where the inner headlights used to be and an optional matte black bonnet that is made from lightweight aluminium. The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat features a larger front splitter designed for optimal downforce to minimize lift. On the rear, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat recalls the original 1971 model’s styling with a split lamp design new LED tail lamp design.
These now high-powered Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat coupes will be built at Dodge’s Brompton, Ontario factory and are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2014. The new Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat will go up against the likes of the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro both of which have extremely high-powered versions of their own. We also expect tuners like Hennessey to go bonkers with these cars producing examples topping 1000-1200PS in the near future.
