Mercedes is planning sportier variants of mainstay models to slot below the full fledged AMG cars

AMG Sport range coming soon

Mercedes-Benz wants to cater to every possible stratum of their car buying audience and in a move that has long been overdue; the German auto giant has decided to launch performance versions of their most important models. These cars will slot between the standard cars and the full-fledged AMG lineup and will offer customers the best of both worlds.

Mercedes is set to launch the first of these cars with the upcoming C450 AMG-Sport which is rumored to be launched in the upcoming Paris Motor show in October. The C450 AMG-Sport will feature unique styling, a sportier chassis and a more powerful engine mapping software, which will offer more power and torque in a non-AMG C-Class than ever before. Based on the C400, the C450 AMG-Sport will offer 372PS of peak power (an extra 35PS over the C400) and more torque to match. The 3.0-litre, turbocharged V6 engine also does duty in the likes of the E and S-Class.

According to reports, Mercedes-Benz will have AMG-Sport lineups in the A, C, E and S-Class families first followed by the likes of the GLA, GLK, GL, ML and the upcoming MLC-class too. The AMG-sport cars will share suspension components and the wider tracks as is the case with the full-fledged AMG powered cars. The AMG-sport cars will also get bespoke chassis setups along with a range of engine and cosmetic upgrades. Expect the AMG-sport cars to be available in both petrol and diesel variants paired to both two-wheel-drive and 4Matic all-wheel-drive setups.
