BMW currently has five SUV offerings in its existing product line-up, namely the X1, X3, X4, X5, and the X6. The manufacturer has now released a teaser image of the sixth addition which will be called the X7. When launched the X7 will be BMW’s flagship SUV model which has been long awaited from the brand. The luxurious SUV market already has the Mercedes-Benz GLS Class and the Range Rover competing against each other and the X7 will be jumping into this fray when launched.
The BMW X7 SUV is codenamed ‘F17’ and is still in development stage. The company has stated that the SUV will be nowhere close to production before 2019. With that said, a concept can be expected from BMW only by 2017-18. The luxurious X7 SUV will underpin the latest 7 Series and will be based on the same CLAR platform. The SUV is expected to adorn the luxurious technologies which are present in the 7 Series and more. On the competition front, the Range Rover is a proper off-roader with all the luxurious amenities inside making it an ideal buy for the customer. We feel BMW should grace the X7 with better off-roading features to make it an all-rounder.
Being a full-fledge SUV, expect the BMW X7 to borrow the engine from the 7 Series. The 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six engine is likely to be chosen to do duty in the X7 for the standard variants. Also, the larger 4.4-litre V8 twin-turbo engine from the 7 Series can be opted for the higher variants. For the flagship model, even a 6.6-litre V12 twin-turbo engine is also possible.
BMW will finally be seen entering the luxury SUV segment with the X7 and will further expand its product range amongst its competition.
