The 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed saw Mercedes-Benz in the limelight celebrating 120 years of motorsport

Some of the greatest and most beautiful race cars and road cars from Mercedes-Benz took to the Goodwood hill at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed celebrating 120 years of motorsport heritage. Mercedes-Benz cars both old and new were driven hard up the 1.16-mile route on Saturday while a new range of modern Mercs stole the limelight at the paddock. The cars that participated in the hill climb, ranged from the race-winning 1928 Mercedes SSK, to the mighty W 165 R Silver Arrow, a SL 500 rally car and the flame-spitting Sauber-Mercedes C 9 endurance racer.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Edition, the most extreme road car ever built by Mercedes-Benz also took to the hill while smoking its tyres and enthralling the crowd. A Mercedes-Benz E300 BlueTEC Hybrid that recently did a trip from Africa to the UK in one tank of fuel was also showcased at Goodwood. The cars were driven by some of the most legendary drivers of all time including Sir Stirling Moss,  Jochen Mass, Klaus Ludwig and Dario Franchitti.

Mercedes SSK and Basil Croft take to the Goodwood hill climb

100 year old Basil Croft, grandfather of noted Formula 1 commentator David Croft was also driven up the hill in a 100 year old Mercedes Grand Prix car that won the 1914 French Grand Prix by legendary driver Jochen Mass. Karl Wendlinger , an ex-Formula One driver then took him up the Goodwood hill in the legendary 1928 Mercedes-Benz SSK.

Other Mercedes-Benz cars that made their way through the hill climb included the 2014 Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 car piloted by Anthony Davidson. A range of new Mercedes-Benz cars, including the AMG range was also on display at the paddock at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Mercedes-Benz UK also debuted the all-new 2014 S-Class Coupé, a car that will eventually make its way to India.
