The all new Castrol sponsored BMW M3 DTM is revealed for the 2012 season. The Castrol sponsorship marks the continuation of Castrol’s long-standing technical partnership with the iconic car manufacturer. Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters or German Touring Car Masters is a touring car racing series based in Germany that sees many of the top German car manufacturers go head in a 24 hour race for victory.

The DTM cars are supposed to be fast and spectacular, while still rather cheap to build and run. All DTM race cars have Rear Wheel Drivetrains and a 4,000cc, 8-clyinder Vertically inclined engine. which are air-restricted to 470 Ps. Instead of the road car bodies, unrelated purpose-built chassis are used which are closer to prototype racing. But many drivers have in fact described the handling of the cars as closer to single seater racing cars than road cars.

Jens Marquardt,BMW Motorsport Director, said: “For many years we have put our faith in high-performance Castrol lubricants, and have celebrated countless successes together on the racetrack. For that reason, everyone here at BMW Motorsport is delighted that we are able to build on this established partnership in the DTM. Castrol EDGE is a high-performance brand, which suits our DTM project perfectly.”

Donald Smith, Castrol Sponsorship Manager, said: “The DTM is one of the most spectacular racing series in Europe and pushes the drivers, teams and cars to the very limit. It is because of these high-performance demands that we research and develop our products through the extremes of motorsport. Castrol EDGE will deliver maximum engine performance and will give the team the strength to perform at the highest level. Together with our long-term partner, BMW Motorsport, we are looking forward to the challenges ahead and will do everything in our power to ensure that BMW is able to triumph in the DTM as they have done in the past.”
