The UK pricing for the BMW G310R has been revealed where the new BMW bike is cheaper than the KTM 390 Duke. Can we expect the same for India?

BMW G310R

The BMW G310R is among the most highly anticipated motorcycle launches of 2016. Among the main reasons for the curiosity surrounding the bike is the fact that it will be the first BMW motorcycle to be manufactured in India and also the most affordable BMW motorcycle offering to go on sale. Pricing for the new BMW motorcycle has been revealed in the UK market while we wait keenly for the Indian launch. The BMW G310R has been priced at £4,290 which at current exchange rates converts to Rs 3.88 lakh. It is interesting to note that the BMW G310R has been priced Rs 23,000 cheaper than the KTM 390 Duke in UK which retails for £4,549 (INR 4.11 lakh).

Now this has given rise to speculation that the BMW G310R will be cheaper than the 390 Duke in the Indian market. But we must point out that import duties and tax structure is different in UK than India and in fact the Royal Enfield Continental GT retails for around £5,200 (Rs 4.7 lakh) in UK while it is cheaper than the KTM offering in India. So we feel that the speculation of the G310R being cheaper than the 390 Duke in India is wrong. In our opinion the BMW G310R will be priced around Rs 2.2 to 2.5 lakh ex-showroom in the Indian market with a possible launch by October, 2016.

The new BMW motorcycle was also recently spotted testing in India without any camouflage and we got an indication of the bikes top speed and mileage, details here: BMW G310R spotted testing. The BMW G310R will be produced at TVS’ Hosur factory while the bike has been designed and developed by BMW Motorrad in Germany. The German bikemaker selected TVS Motors to keep the production cost as low as possible to make it the cheapest BMW bike on sale. Talking about engine, the BMW G310R features a 313cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor producing 35PS of power and 28Nm of peak torque. The powerplant has been mated to a 6-speed gearbox and the motorcycle weighs 158.5kg.The BMW motorcycle will compete against the KTM 390 Duke, Benelli TNT300, Mahindra Mojo and the Kawasaki Z250 in the Indian market.
