BMW will unveil the 3 Series facelift next week at an event in Munich, Germany to counter the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The 2015 model year 3 Series will not only get a cosmetic update but also a new engine added to its lineup. BMW will introduce the 1.5-litre 3-cylinder twin turbocharged engine into the 3 Series. Reports suggest that a 2.0-litre petrol-electric hybrid is also on the cards.

As for the cosmetic updates, a new adaptive LED headlight setup will give the 3 new eyes for the road, a redesigned bumper and kidney grille too added in the mix will round off the minor update. A few interior materials could change too as we have seen on the recently updated SUVs in the BMW lineup – the X3 and X5.

The BMW 3 Series in India has been caught between the aging but popular Audi A4 and the fantastic new Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The executive sedan finds few takers here but this update might just help its sales in India. Especially the new 1.5-litre diesel engine as BMW does not have a entry level sedan to take on the Audi A3 and Mercedes CLA and this variant could well be a variant BMW could front against this new entry luxury sedan segment.
