BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer Officially Unveiled Ahead Of Geneva Motor Show

The luxury carmaker has officially unveiled its newest member in the MPV family - the BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer ahead of its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The new BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer will officially go on sale in the international market this year

BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer officially unveiled

BMW has pulled the wraps off its new MPV - the BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer. Billed by the automaker as the ‘world’s first premium compact model to offer up to seven seats,’ the 2-Series Gran Tourer is a sibling of the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer.

This new MPV is 4,556mm long, 1,800mm wide and 1,608mm tall and has a luggage compartment that can be extended from 645 to 805 litres. Moreover, to make more space at the back, the third row can be completely lowered to the floor level.

The BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer will be available with a choice of five engine options. The 218i will get a 1.5-litre twin-turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing 136PS of power and 220Nm of torque. It enables the model to accelerate from 0-100kmph in 9.5 seconds before hitting a top-speed of up to 205kmph.

The 220i will come equipped with the  2.0-litre twin power turbocharged four-cylinder unit that develops 192PS of power and 280Nm of torque enabling this MPV to sprint from from 0-100kmph in as little as 7.6 seconds before reaching a top-speed of 223kmph.

On the diesel front, the entry-level 216d will get a 1.5-litre twin power turbocharged three-cylinder engine that will churn out 116PS of power and 270Nm of torque.

Moving on, the 218d will get a 2.0-litre twin power turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 150PS of power and 330Nm of torque.

Lastly, the 220d xDrive uses a more powerful 2.0-litre twin power turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 190PS of power and 400Nm of torque.  Thanks to an all-wheel drive and a standard eight-speed automatic transmission, the model accelerates from 0-100kmph in 7.6 seconds before reaching a top-speed of 218kmph.

The new BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer officially will go on sale in the international market this year.
