The diesel variant of the Chevrolet Beat is just around the corner, and details of the car have begun to trickle in as the ZigWheels team conducts its preview drive in Goa. Some of them are very interesting too.

For starters and at the heart of the matter will be an all-new 936cc, 3-cylinder diesel engine to power the new Beat. The engine will pump out 58.5 PS of power @ 4,000 Rpm as compared to the petrol's 80-odd horses, but will make up for it with a robust diesel torque of 150 Nm @ 1750 Rpm. This engine is India specific, and it's not available anywhere else in the world for now. It is set to be the smallest diesel in the Indian passenger car space yet.
Tipping the scales at just over 1000 kilos, this will also be one of the lightest diesel cars around. Low kerb weight is a virtue on the petrol variant too, and the same characteristic has made the GM boffins confident of the diesel Beat's fuel efficiency, which has been pegged at 24 kmpl by the ARAI certificate.
The rest of the car is expected to remain the same as the petrol, with identical dimensions and features. Tyre width however has been downsized from a 170-section on the petrol to a 165-section on the diesel, on identical 14-inch wheels.
The car will be launched (Read : Upcoming Launch) on July 25, but ZigWheels will be out with its preview in the coming days. Watch out for it!

I am a fan of Chevrolet brand This manufacturer is known for robust and powerful cars Chevy beat is definately the one keeping price down and offering diesel to the customers. They have come a long way from the cheap Japanese car manufacturers in quality and customer care.

I took a test drive of this car yesterday. My first feeling was good. The engine is really smooth. But except this there are no other good things to tell about this car.

i have been waiting for this car since 2009. I had mailed the regional manager ten times , finally it is out and I am extremely impressed by the tech specs of it. What is more exciting is the electric assisted power steering and wider tyres for the Beat diesel. I hope they price it in my budget
