ZigWheels has learnt that Vespa might introduce fuel injection technology across its entire scooter portfolio in the Indian two-wheeler market. The fuel injection technology will result in the final pricing of the scooter getting increased by around Rs 4,000

Vespa which is present in India as a premium scooter manufacturer might introduce fuel injection technology across its product portfolio. When ZigWheels contacted Vespa, the officials didn’t deny the possibility of introducing fuel injection technology in its range of scooters but refused to confirm the above. Fuel injection results in crisper throttle response and eliminates the issue of cold starting. The Vespa brand is present in the Indian two-wheeler market under its parent company Piaggio.   The Italian scooter manufacturer has four scooters from its international portfolio on sale in India. This includes the Vespa LX, Vespa VX, Vespa S and Vespa Elegante.

All the above four scooters are powered by the same 125cc motor. The single-cylinder, 3-valave, air-cooled mill pumps out 10PS of peak power and maximum torque of 10.6Nm. Fuel injection is expected to hike the power output marginally. Fuel injection is a standard feature on Vespa scooters in the international market but it was omitted in India to keep the pricing low. But given the fact that Vespa scooters aren’t value for money offering when compared to other 125cc scooters in the market adding fuel injection tech seems like a logical decision. The addition of fuel injection is expected to hike the prices of the Vespa scooters over the current pricing. Vespa also showcased the GTS 300 at the 2015 India Bike Week.

Speaking to ZigWheels, Vespa officials quoted, “Piaggio globally has advanced fuel injection technology on most of the vehicles sold. Piaggio is actively evaluating the possibility of launching two wheelers with fuel injection technology in India. However nothing is confirmed yet”.
