Claimed to be the worst floods in 60 years, the Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) tragedy has been called as a ‘national disaster’ by PM Narendra Modi. The flood-ravaged Srinagar and South Kashmir has witnessed the death of nearly 200 people with six lakh people still believed to be stranded. To aid in the disaster relief operations of J&K, Mahindra Group has put its foot forth by announcing to donate Rs Two crore to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.
Commenting on the donation, Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group, said, “The Mahindra Group shares the distress and concern of the Prime Minister and the people of India, over the tragedy that has befallen the people of Jammu & Kashmir. This donation is our contribution to the state, to help it overcome this terrible catastrophe.”
In addition to this donation, Mahindra Consulting Engineers, the engineering consulting services arm of the Mahindra Group, in consultation with the state government, has proposed to undertake the development of an eco-friendly village cluster with multi-disaster resistant dwelling units, community centre and associated site services comprising roads, water supply, sewerage, solid waste management, power supply and other site infrastructure facilities.
This plan is also likely to incorporate income restoration during the rehabilitation period, for the victims of the proposed village, through employment creation in the construction activities, and other programs.
