Following the recall of 3.25 lakh diesel cars issued by Volkswagen Group India in December 2015, Audi has now issued a voluntary recall of 36,500 cars that are powered by the EA 189 engine. As per the report submitted by the group, the affected 2.0-litre EA 189 engine will receive a software update to make then emission compliant.

We reached out to the company, but no confirmation was given to us regarding the recall. Expect Audi India to carry out service camps soon at its authorised dealerships across the country. All the service measures will be carried out at the convenience of the customers and will be done free of cost.

As mentioned above, the recall of 3.24 lakh vehicles by the Volkswagen Group India consisted of nearly 198,500 cars from Volkswagen, 88,700 cars from Skoda, and 36,500 cars from Audi. The affected vehicles consisted of units that were produced from 2008 to 2015 (till November end). Also, the EA 189 diesel engine is available in different states of displacements, which include 1.2-litre, 1.5-litre, 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesel mills.

As per the technical measures announced, the 2.0-litre engine will receive a software update while the 1.5-litre and 1.6-litre engines will be fitted with a flow transformer in-between the route of the air intake.
