The Japanese based automaker, Mitsubishi, has officially pulled the wraps off the new MiEV Evolution III race car, which will be making its racing debut at the 2014 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The carmaker will field two versions of the car in the 92nd running of the challenge.
Designed to compete in the Electric Modified Division, the MiEV Evolution III is being billed as an evolved version of last year's MiEV Evolution II. The chassis of the new car has been made lighter and its body has been reshaped to improve the aerodynamic downforce.
The MiEV Evolution III is equipped with four electric motors that form an all-wheel-drive system complete with Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) traction technology. However, there is a significant power increase from the electric motors from 400PS to 603PS.
Mitsubishi will field two of the cars in its race to the top of Pikes Peak. The first car will be piloted by Hiroshi Masuoka, who was behind the wheel of last year's second-place-finishing MiEV Evolution; the second will be piloted by six-time Pikes Peak motorcycle champion Greg Tracy.
