Based on the Audi A3 Cabriolet, the top-spec Audi S3 Cabriolet features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TFSI engine capable of 300PS power and 380Nm torque, up by 115PS and 130Nm from the most powerful front-wheel-drive Audi A3 Cabriolet. The motor comes mated to a six-speed S Tronic transmission delivering power to all four wheels.
At 1,620kg it is hefty for its size, but is expected in a convertible which uses extra strengthening to get the desired body rigidity, since it’s a soft-top. Despite the extra weight, the Audi S3 Cabriolet has a quick 0-100kmph sprint time of 5.4 seconds. Compared to an Audi S3 saloon, the topless Audi S3 Cabriolet delivers slightly lower fuel economy of 10.25kmpl, down by about 0.5kmpl. The brakes have also been beefed up, with bigger front discs of 340mm.
Setting the Audi S3 Cabriolet apart from the regular models are chromed windscreen surround, aluminium-finish ORVM housings and bi-xenon headlights. Besides it gets a pair of muscular bumpers, a platinum grey finish for the grille, new 19-inch alloys wheels and a 25mm lower sports suspension. The foldable roof is made up of three-layers of inner padding to reduce wind and road noise within the cabin. Moreover, one can drop down the roof electronically in flat 18 seconds, driving up to 50kmph.
The interiors get special treatment as well, with fine Nappa leather and brush metal trim, complete with a sporty flat-bottomed three-spoke steering wheel, stainless steel pedals, special instrument cluster and an integrated boost gauge for the rev counter. Adding to the exclusivity, the Audi S3 Cabriolet gets the ‘S’ logos embossed onto the leather draped front seats finished with contrasting silver stitches.
Apart from the regular body colours, Audi S3 Cabriolet buyers have the option of picking exclusive paints like the Pearl-Effect Sepang Blue and Crystal-Effect Panther Black. Priced at Rs 39 lakh (approx.) the 2014 Audi S3 Cabriolet’s first deliveries will commence from September this year across Europe.
