It has almost become a bimonthly luxury automobile pricing update of sorts, with Audi being no exception. The constant depreciating value of the rupee and a string of other industry challenges have forced the brand with the four rings to once again announce a significant increase in the prices of their India model-line up that will take effect from the 15th of the month.

The increase would range up to 4 percent across models that include the Audi Q5, the A6 sedan and the R8 sports car. Prices for the Q5 will increase by Rs 1.52 lakh, Rs 1.80 lakh for the A6 luxury saloon and Rs 4.42 lakh for the R8.

Commenting on this development, Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India, said, “The overall market scenario is challenging. The depreciating rupee and rise in input cost have made us re-evaluate our pricing strategy in India and increase the prices of the entire range. However, we are offering the customers customized and innovative finance options from Audi Finance which will make their purchase more attractive.”

“In spite of the challenges, Audi is the growth driver of the luxury market in India. Audi India is also growing from strength to strength with 26 dealerships and new product launches like Audi RS 5 and Audi S6. Keeping our performance in mind, we are confident of achieving our target for the year”, he added.

Audi managed to sell 750 units in June 2013, a growth of 4 percent over the same period last year. However, if they do hope to continue leading from the front in the country’s growing luxury car space, prices will have to stabilize and be within the grasp of prospective buyers. Expanding its network to 34 dealerships by the end of 2013 from its existing 26 centers wouldn’t hurt either.
