Audi announces price hike effective January 1, 2014

Audi India has announced a price increase from 3 to 5 per cent across its model range in India.

After the recent price hike of 7 to 10 per cent announced by BMW Group India across its BMW and MINI range, now it is Audi India doing the same. The price increase for Audi too will be effective January 1, 2014 but differs from BMW in terms of the range i.e from 3-5 per cent across its range.

Commenting on the announcement, Joe King, head, Audi India said, "While Audi has exhibited a strong sales performance in 2013, the overall market scenario has remained challenging. Various economic factors have put pressure on our business model and resulted in the necessity to increase our prices. Continuing our focus on the customer, we have ensured that the impact is as minimal as possible. Additionally, we are offering the customers customized and innovative finance options from Audi Finance which will make their purchase more attractive."


 
The last price hike by Audi India was made effective on July 15, 2013 and included an increase of up to 4 per cent across its entire model range selling in India. The models included were the Audi Q5, the A6 sedan and the R8 sports car. Prices for the Q5 increased by Rs. 1.52 lakh, Rs. 1.80 lakh for the A6 luxury saloon and Rs. 4.42 lakh for the R8 respectively.

Currently Audi India offers the New A4, New A6, A7, A8L in the passenger car segment with the S6 being the performance version. In the SUV segment, it has the Q3, Q5 and Q7 and in the super-car segment, there is the New R8. Other performance cars include the RS5 and TT.

The German luxury carmaker sold 750 units in June 2013, a growth of 4 per cent over the same period last year; 1,002 units in October 2013, a growth of 17.8 percent (October 2012: 850 cars). Sales for the January-October 2013 period stood at 8,393 units, a growth of 15.4 percent (January-October 2012: 7,267 units).

Apart from this, Audi India also plans to expand its network to 34 dealerships by the end of 2013 from its existing 30 centres.
