At its world premiere, the Aston Martin V12 Zagato won the Concorso D'Eleganza Design Award, giving its 50th Anniversary Year a special meaning

Introduced as a modern day interpretation of the iconic DB4GT Zagato, that was the result of a famous collaboration between Aston Martin and Zagato half a century ago, the new V12 Zagato concept was revealed for the very first time at the prestigious Concorso D’Eleganza Classic and Concept Car fair, sparking off great interest amongst auto enthusiasts and vintage car lovers present at the grand event.

All visitors to the Concorso D’Eleganza were invited to cast their vote for the best concept and prototype. Among ten entries from around the world, the Aston Martin V12 Zagato was voted the best in class.

Delighted at the splendid response to the modern day re-incarnation of the DB4GT Zagato, Design Director of Aston Martin, Marek Reichman exclaimed, “It is an honour to win this award in Italy, where many great designs originated from, and this victory shows that Aston Martin has successfully developed their own renowned design language over the past years. The result is a car that incorporates the core values of the Zagato design language which we perfectly translated into Aston Martin’s modern design DNA.”

Almost half a century ago, a special alliance between luxury sports car manufacturer Aston Martin and Italy based engineering design consultancy Zagato sparked off the creation of a lightened and improved version of the original DB4 model, which became known to the world as the iconic Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato.

Although, the success of this car was short-lived and ended with just 20 units ever making it off the production line, the popularity of the car inspired subsequent designs like Sanction II and the Sanction III, and at the 2011 Concorso d’Eleganze the most modernistic representation of this half century old car received great applause at the exclusive classic and concept car show held at the bank of Lake Como.

CEO of Aston Martin , Dr Ulrich Bez is looking forward now to taking the car to the Nürburgring where it will have its racing debut at the 53rd ADAC ACAS H&R-Cup VLN race in less than a week, on the 28th May.
