Shell Lubricants regarded as one of the biggest brands in the global lubricant industry launched the new Shell Helix Ultra with Shell PurePlus Technology in the Indian market. What makes the new Shell Helix Ultra with PurePlus technology unique is the fact that the base oil employed in the lubricant has been created from natural gas and not crude oil like in other lubricants. For this purpose Shell has developed a revolutionary Gas-to-Liquid (GTL) process that converts natural gas into crystal-clear base oil.
According to Shell since the base oil is based on natural gas it doesn’t have the impurities that are normally found in crude oil and the new lubricant is the most advanced synthetic oil manufactured by them till date. Shell claims that the new lubricant reduces friction among the mating parts, reduces oil consumption in comparison to standard oils and improves the fuel efficiency between to two to six per cent. The company officials claim the new Shell Helix Ultra with PurePlus is a result of 40 years of research as they had started a pilot manufacturing unit at Amsterdam in 1973 to develop the technology of converting natural gas into oil. In fact, Shell applied for 3,500 patents while developing this process.
The base oil for the Shell Helix Ultra with PurePlus technology lubricant is produced at the Pearl Plant in Qatar; a partnership between Shell and Qatar Petroleum. Shell claims the current market percentage for full synthetic oils is around five per cent in our country with respect to 50 per cent in developed countries like Russia and USA. To create awareness about the benefits of the synthetic oils it plans to start a marketing programme. Part of which will be a special initiative in which Shell will offer lifetime warranty to customers who use Shell Helix Ultra with PurePlus technology lubricant.
