Aprilia has become the first of the major two-wheeler manufacturer to officially collaborate with Skully helmets that will enable its riders to visually access V4-MP multimedia on their visor

Skully AR-1

Italian two-wheeler manufacturer Aprilia has announced that it has collaborated with Skully, the American company pioneering the development of helmets with Head-up Display technology (HUD). With this partnership, Aprilia and Skully will new forms of rider-vehicle interaction for V4-MP, which is Piaggio group’s multimedia platform. The V4-MP multimedia is available on the Aprilia RSV4 and Tuono 1100 so we can expect the HUD technology to make its public debut on the above two motorcycles next year.

This integration will help the Aprilia rider to visually access the details of V4-MP system on his Skully AR-1’s visor apart from the other standard features available with the helmet. Skully claims that its helmets improves rider safety as one doesn’t have to move his eyes off the visor as all the details are visible on it. The Skully AR-1 makes use of voice command that displays the required information on the helmets visor depending on the command given by the rider.

Another neat feature is the integrated wide-angle rear-view camera that helps the rider to see what’s going on behind his back without having to look in the mirrors or over their shoulder. Connecting to the bike’s multimedia platform via Bluetooth, Aprilia says the helmet will display all ‘travel and vehicle indications’.Pricing and other details regarding the Skully AR-1 hasn’t been divulged yet but prototypes are expected to go on sale in February, 2015.
