The rising fuel prices is a matter of concern for car buyers across the world. Commercial vehicle transporters, too, seem to be harrowed by those rising barrel tags. The Swedish truck maker has decided to come to the rescue of these heavy transporters by launching a new version of the Volvo FE truck which runs entirely on methane gas.
The Volvo FE CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) has been developed especially for operations involving short drives such as local distribution and refuse collection, where repeated start and stop is required.
This new truck is equipped with a 9-litre Euro 6 engine with spark plug technology that can produce 320PS of power and a staggering 1,356Nm of torque. The Swedish carmaker claims that its new truck will offer 70 per cent less carbon dioxide than the traditional diesel trucks, thus making it eco-friendly.
The Swedish truck maker claims that the Volvo FE CNG truck retains the same excellent driveability and productivity as the conventional Volvo FE due to its six-speed fully-automatic transmission. The automatic transmission also enables faster driveline response.
The new Volvo FE CNG will go on sale in Europe this month, with series production getting under way in early 2015.
