Jaguar has confirmed the introduction of an all-new entry-level sports car called the F-Type at the ongoing New York International Auto Show. The F-Type is based on the breathtaking C-X16 concept Jaguar had showcased at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. "The reaction to it has been so positive that we've accelerated our development of an all-new Jaguar sports car,” said Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director, Jaguar Cars.

The car is still under wraps for now though the British car maker has released some teaser images to give us a peek into its styling. The F-Type will strictly be a two-seater convertible with a standard soft top as opposed to a retractable hard top. The roadster will feature plenty of aluminium bodywork and display an uncompromising focus towards delivering driver reward. Strengthening that claim will be an array of petrol engine options, including possibly a 3.0-litre supercharged V6, that promise to offer stunning sports car performance.

“The core appeal of Jaguar's cars is their sporting heart, and that heart will beat stronger than ever before in the F-TYPE,” said Hallmark. Ian Callum, Director of Design, said: The C-type, D-type and E-type Jaguars were all sports cars that held true to this principle in their era, and the F-TYPE will hold true to that same principle in its time, a time that is soon to arrive."

The F-Type will hit production later this year at the company’s Castle Bromwich plant in the UK while sales will begin mid-2013 making it the fourth model in Jaguar's current model line-up comprising XF sports sedan, the XJ luxury sedan and the XK coupe/convertible. Expect pricing to be under the XK but a little over the Porsche Boxster.
