All-new Ford B-Max gets Active City Stop
The award-winning Ford B-Max's Active City Stop feature helps avoid frontal collisions with stationary or slower moving traffic

It is known to be among the safest cars in production. And it's even bagged awards for that. The Ford B-Max's feather in the cap includes a 2012 Global Mobile Award for Technology–a feature that alerts local emergency services in case of a crash. But that's not the only reassuring thing about the vehicle. Bolstering its safety further is the Active City Stop--an innovative technology that reduces the risk of low-speed accidents.
This system applies brakes the moment it detects an imminent collision, helping B-MAX drivers avoid mishaps. First launched on Ford Focus last year, the system was awarded an Advanced reward by Euro NCAP in 2011.
According to reports, each year more than half a million people are injured in car crashes in cities in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain alone. Of these, approximately one-in-eight are hurt in rear-end shunts, the type which Active City Stop is designed to reduce in severity or avoid altogether.
The system has been designed keeping in mind an injury like soft tissue neck injury which can be caused at a low speed such as 10mph (16km/h) and as high as 18mph (29km/h).
Other features that are worth mentioning include Ford’s Hill Launch Assist, which prevents the car from rolling back during hill starts or when parking on a slope; and a rear-view camera, which helps the driver to maneuver in small spaces and park in tight spots.
The B-MAX is powered by the three-cylinder, 1.0-litre Ford EcoBoost petrol engine (already in Ford Focus), available in 100PS and 120PS versions.
