Adrian Newey joins driver line-up for Silverstone

53-year old Adrian Newey will race on his home track in the second round of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo
After a winning start in round one by Swiss newcomer Stefano Comini in Monza, Bonaldi Motorsport has roped in 53-year-old Adrian Newey as their race car driver for round two. Newey, the race engineer for Red Bull, is well known in the world of Formula One with conception of eight Formula One Constructors’ titles and has helped some of the world’s best F1 drivers to championship victories.
The veteran will share car #1 with Alberto Sabbatani, Editor-in-Chief of an Italian magazine. Newey has competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2010. He also drove the Red Bull Racing RB5 Formula One Race Car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The Bolognese car maker introduced the Super Trofeo in May 2009 and calls it the ‘fastest one-make race series in the world’ featuring the all-wheel drive Gallardo race car that generates 578PS from its retuned V10 that has a higher compression ratio of 12.5:1 and variable valve timing.
The series supports European race series such as the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM), FIA GT Series and the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), featuring 18 races overall. The 30-car grid consists of privateer teams as well as Lamborghini dealer teams and one factory team featuring guest drivers. This time at Silverstone, 18 cars are expected to be on the grid.
