General Motors (GM) has confirmed that the new 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 is the most powerful car it has ever built

When the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was unveiled at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show back in January, it proved itself a worthy successor to the supercar-slaying C6 model. Chevy did not reveal how much power it produced then. But, those power figures have been revealed now and the wait was worth it.

The 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06’s 6.2-litre V8 engine produces 650PS of power and a massive torque of 880Nm. This makes the Corvette Z06 the most powerful production car GM has ever built. Not only does the Z06 eclipse the old Corvette Z1’s output, but it also overpowers the McLaren 650S and SRT Viper.

This record-breaking power output is achieved with an engine based on the same Gen 5 small-block design as the LT1 V8 engine used in the regular Corvette Stingray. Notable upgrades include a 1.7-litre supercharger, dry-sump oiling, aluminum cylinder heads, and titanium intake valves.

The Z06 will be offered with a choice of either a seven-speed manual transmission or a new high-performance eight-speed automatic transmission. As in the base Corvette, the automatic transmission will have shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel, giving the driver the opportunity to select gears manually.

General Motors has stated that pricing for the new 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will be announced closer to the start of its production in 2015. The new car will be available in both coupe and convertible versions.
