While this year's Budget has led to an increase in prices of cars overall, the much speculated diesel tax has not been imposed making diesel cars a lot more lucrative than before. Here are five diesel cars in the Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh price bracket that make perfect sense over pricey petrol rivals

With diesel vehicles being spared the additional excise duty hike proposed during the recent Budget, buying a small diesel sedan now makes more sense than a petrol model. Here are 5 diesel sedans in the Rs 5 lakh – Rs 8 lakh range that are worth considering:

No. 1) Ford Fiesta Classic – Rs 7.91 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) 

The Ford Fiesta has been around for a while now but its bold yet simple styling has still not begun to age. Known for its fabulous drive dynamics, the Fiesta Classic is powered by a 1,399cc 4-cylinder diesel unit, producing 67PS of power. The Classic dishes out a decent 13.9kmpl mileage in city and 18.3kmpl on the highway, and will do the 0-60km/h sprint in 6.46sec with a top speed of 160km/h.

No. 2) Toyota Etios Diesel – Rs 7.80 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)

The Etios is powered by a 1,364cc, 4-cylinder engine that puts out 68PS of power and dishes out a fuel efficiency of 14.2kmpl in the city and 19kmpl on the highway. The Etios will sprint to 60km/h in 5.92sec and can touch a top speed of 163km/h.

No. 3) Tata Indigo Manza – Rs 7.57 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)

The Manza can touch a top speed of 168km/h and do a 0-60km/h sprint in 5.83sec.

No. 4) Mahindra Verito – Rs 7.48 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) 

The Mahindra Verito uses the same diesel engine that was there on the Renault Logan. The Verito is priced at Rs 7.48 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi, and is powered by a 1,461cc 4-cylinder diesel mill producing 65PS of power. The Verito will clock a top speed of 144km/h and sprint to 60km/h in 6.07sec. On the fuel efficiency front, the Verito juices out 13.6kmpl in the city and 19.3kmpl on the highway.

No. 5) Swift Dzire – Rs 7.09 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)

Priced at Rs 7.09 lakh, the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire is the cheapest car in this price bracket and therefore offers tremendous value for money.
