The rainy Sunday morning of 17 February 2013 was brought to life by the sound of automobiles from the yesteryears at the 47th edition of the Statesman Vintage & Classic Car Rally, New Delhi.

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Devender Kumar Joshi, was present at the Statesman House to flag off the rally at 9 am.

Despite the rain, the rally was a success with participants showcasing their magnificent vehicles and demonstrating that age is no barrier in the world of motoring. A few cars did experience trouble en route but it was nothing the designated rally technician could not fix. The rally proceeded to Hibiscus, Sector 50, Gurgaon for a leisurely Sunday drive followed by lunch.

After lunch, the participants drove on to the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in New Delhi for the prize distribution ceremony of the 47th Statesman Vintage & Classic Car Rally.

The coveted ‘Queen of the Rally’ trophy went to the 1934 Lagonda owned by R N Seth. In total, 41 prizes were awarded to the participants of the 47th Statesman Vintage & Classic Car Rally that were awarded on the grounds of age, maintenance, performance and originality. The awards were handed over by Chitra Joshi, wife of the Naval Chief.

The 47th edition of the Statesman Vintage & Classic Car Rally was indeed an enjoyable demonstration of motoring gone by.
