Ford's new GT packs more than 600PS from its EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 mill lighting up the rear wheels

Be it the original Ford GT 40 or the previous Ford GT that sported the original’s heavily inspired silhouette and design, this moniker is one for the history books to drool over. So expectations are high from a new Ford GT. To ensure it is nothing short of spectacular, Ford has taken its own sweet time to pen arguably the best looking Ford car ever.

The 2017 Ford GT that you are feasting your eyes on was revealed at the Detroit motor show with little information of its performance capabilities but enough sex appeal to care less about how fast it goes around a track or in a straight line. What Ford has revealed however is that the car in these pictures that enters production towards the end of next year will not have a supercharged V8 like its predecessor. It will sport a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 EcoBoost engine developing over 600PS of power making it the most powerful Ecoboost engine ever. The 2017 Ford GT is part of 12 Ford performance vehicles to be launched before 2020.

The mid-engined supercar will light up the rear wheels via a 7-speed DCT unit. Being a modern supercar, the Ford GT will be built extensively of carbon fibre and aluminium. The shell is carbon fibre as are all the body panels. The front and rear subframe are constructed of aluminium. The Ford GT also gets active aerodynamic components, the main of which is the rear wing that adjusts according to speed and conditions.

The Ford GT gets racing style pushrod suspension and adjustable ride height. It will be shod by 20 inch Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 tyres developed specifically for the GT with stopping powering coming from massive carbon-ceramic discs. The Ford GT also gets cool upward swinging doors that make getting in and out of the car quite easy. The interior is minimalist, neat and to our eyes not as well executed as the exterior of the car. An F1-style steering wheel with paddle shifters and a thousand knobs keep the driver from taking eyes off the road. A large digital instrument cluster and another screen for navigation make up the dashboard. An interesting touch is the air vents integrated in the door.
