In an effort to shore up sales of the Cygnus Ray Z scooter and make it appeal more to the male species, Yamaha Motor India has taken the wraps off the Cygnus Ray ZR at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. Ever since its launch, the Yamaha Ray has suffered from an identity crisis, having first been pegged as a unisex scooter, and later unveiled for the male species with sportier graphics.
Now, with the Ray ZR variant, Yamaha hopes that the scooter will finally catch the attention of the male species too. Essentially a stickering job, the Ray ZR retains the same powertrain as the Ray Z: an air-cooled 4-stroke, 2-valve, 113cc “BLUE CORE” engine. Yamaha claims that the Ray ZR will offer best-in-class mileage.
As for the new colours, the Ray ZR will be available in two sporty new colours. The instrument console has also been designed to keep up with the rest of the styling refresh. Front disc brake and cast aluminum wheels are available on the top end variant, while the lesser variant makes do with drum brakes at both ends.
With its tagline proclaiming: “We are young” expect the top-end variant of the Ray ZR to be priced slightly higher than the current version when it is launched, which should be anytime soon.
