Toyota’s Innova is one of the most successful cars in India. Since its launch in 2005 it has gone on to earn the tag of India’s favourite MPV. But it had been in the market for over a decade and a generation change was long due. Well today at the 2016 Auto Expo all dues have been paid as Toyota has unveiled the new generation Innova called the Innova Crysta. The Crysta is built on Toyota’s new Toyota New Global Architecture or TNGA for short and it will share the platform with the new generation Fortuner as well. According to Toyota the new platform is lighter yet stiffer than the monocoque used in the outgoing model. It looks rather premium with its sweptback headlamps, flared wheel arches and DRLs. The tail lamps are also new.

The Crysta is 4,735mm in length, 1,830mm wide and 1,795mm high making it significantly larger than the old Innova which translates to much more in cabin space. The wheelbase though, at 2,750mm, is identical to the current car.  The premium feel has been carried over to the interior as well and features a dual tone layout with silver accents and leather upholstery. It also features climate control, voice command, Bluetooth connectivity and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The Crysta will come with two new engines, specifications of which haven't been revealed yet. The engines are mated to a 6-speed manual transmission but a 6-speed auto box is also available as an option. The car comes with three variants and the top of the line variant will come with all aforementioned convenience features and seven airbags whereas three airbags are standard across the range.
