Maruti Suzuki Ignis
While it was spied testing for the first time in India recently, the hatchback was introduced as a concept by the Indian automaker earlier this month, in Greater Noida. The Ignis with its high-set bonnet, unique honeycomb grille that surrounds the headlights, and Daytime Running Lights looks distinctive. As for the powertrain, the Ignis is expected to come in both petrol and diesel avatars. While the 1.2 K Series petrol mill, producing 84.3PS and 115Nm, will power the former, the latter will be driven by a slightly smaller unit, churning out 74 horses and 190Nm.
Renault Kwid
Kwid has been a hit with the Indian masses ever since it was launched at an extremely competitive price last year. Cashing in on this popularity, the French automaker launched a couple of more powerful variants of the hatchback at the expo and also showcased two new concepts based on the Kwid: the Kwid Climber and the Kwid Racer. The first is a tall off-roader that, with its high ground clearance, wide track, and specially designed tyres looks purpose-built for the job. On the other hand, the Racer lives up to its name. Sporting 18-inch alloy wheels, low profile tyres, bucket seats, and a roll cage, the Racer looks ready to take on anything that the world of motorsport can throw at it.
Chevrolet Essentia
After the launch of the new Volkswagen Ameo and a few other unveilings at the Auto Expo, it looks like this year will bring a lot of action from the sub-4 metre sedan segment. Following suit, General Motors premiered a brand new compact sedan, the Chevrolet Essentia in India at the expo. On the outside, the new Chevrolet Essentia sports a typical Chevrolet front snout with a split front grille and a prominent logo. The front looks a lot like the Beat hatchback as the car will be based on the same platform that the Beat is on and will also feature many styling features both on the exterior and on the interior.
Hyundai Carlino
In line with the promise made of expanding its SUV range to 5 models by year's-end, Hyundai unveiled its new sub-compact SUV albeit as a concept. The Carlino (or HND-14) slots in between two of Hyundai’s more popular SUV offerings- the smaller Hyundai i20 Active crossover and the Hyundai Creta compact SUV. Mechanically, this new subcompact will share its engines with other offerings from the Hyundai family such as the i20 Active and Creta.
Audi Prologue
Among the many premium car concepts at the Auto Expo, what fascinated us the most came from the brand with four rings. The German automaker unveiled a coupe concept called ‘Signature’ Prologue that was first presented at the 2014 LA Auto Show in America. The car boasts of an attractive front fascia, taut geometric lines and an edgy silhouette. As for the technology, the Audi Prologue gets the 4.0 TFSI biturbo V8, which puts out 605PS along with 700Nm of torque. Interestingly, the driver can call up for a boosted torque of 750Nm for nearly 15 seconds via overboost mode.
