2016 Auto Expo: Tata Nexon Compact SUV revealed

The 2016 Auto Expo seems to be a non-stop orgy of SUVs being unveiled and launched from almost every single manufacturer that has taken part. Tata, not to be left behind has finally unveiled the production version of its long awaited compact SUV, the Nexon. Although the car seen here today is still a pre production prototype, the completed production car will look exactly like this when launched about a year from now.

Although no confirmed details if the Nexon have been released, the compact SUV will have a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine which will make somewhere in the region of 90-100PS of peak power and a 1.3-litre Fiat sourced diesel engine which will make 90PS of peak power and 200Nm of peak torque. On the gearbox front, the Nexon will come with both a manual and an AMT version for the diesel while the petrol will get a manual gearbox only.

In terms of design, the typically Tata family look still continues to show glimpses although the contoured roofline which makes a two tone design possible is certainly a modern take on things and a step in the right direction. The front grille too is large and well detailed while the bumper’s lower half gets three slats and a well styled look too. The rear bumper and the rear tail lamps too are quite well styled with smaller details aplenty.

The interior of the Nexon is nothing that we have seen before. You get a free standing screen which gets a color display, a climate control system and a knob to select drive modes. The new Nexon will also get a large boot and enough space in the rear for three passengers.
