Mercedes-Benz will display the G500 4x4-2 concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. The big off-road ready SUV is essentially a 4-wheeled version of the G-Class 6x6.

Amongst all the sportscars and sports-sedans at the 2016 Auto Expo, the Mercedes-Benz will also display the behemoth G500 4x4-2 concept. The big chunky ‘get-out-of-my-way’ off-road ready SUV is essentially a 4-wheeled version of the even crazier G63 6x6 which was showcased a few years ago and made in very very limited numbers for a few exclusive customers.

The G500 4x4-2 comes with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that also powers the likes of the S500 in India making a staggering 453PS of peak power. The new G500 4x4-2 has a standard ground clearance of a 450mm and comes with 22-inch wheels for road use. Mercedes-Benz also offers the option of factory fitted 18-inch beadlock wheels that get 37-inch tyres that are over 12.5-inches wide. With the off-road tyres, the wading depth of the G500 4x4-2 goes up to 1000mm or 1-meter.

In terms of styling, the G500 4x4-2 is similar to its G63 cousin that we get in India. The aggressive and yet beautiful styling that has essentially remained unchanged since the 1970s is complemented by modern touches like LED headlights, daytime running lights and a sporty bumper. On the interior front, the simple G-Class design continues with large and comfortable seats, a large steering wheel and simple analogue-digital combination instruments.

Although there is no real production version of the Mercedes-Benz G500 4x4-2, there will be one later this year and knowing Mercedes-Benz India’s knack of getting their latest products to India sooner than expected, expect the G500 4x4-2 to make an Indian debut sometime later this year at a premium price point.
