First unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis made its India debut at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Ignis was first showcased in concept form at the Geneva Motor Show last year where it was called the iM-4. Maruti Suzuki has developed the Ignis keeping in mind the rapidly growing mini-SUV segment. This new offering shares the same lightweight compact car platform that the Baleno is based on. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be launched in the festive season later this year.
In terms of design, the Ignis is built on an entirely new platform, Maruti Suzuki said here on Thursday. Up front it gets LED infused headlamps chrome surround fog lamps and a chrome grille. The triangular rear quarter design make the Maruti Suzuki stand out in a crowd. The tail gate is raked out and a simple tail lamp rounds off the rear. On the inside, the Ignis comes with a 3-spoke steering wheel, touchscreen infotainment system and a bright instrument console with MID.
Under the hood, this new Maruti Suzuki Ignis is expected to get a 1.2-litre petrol mill that makes 84.3PS and 115Nm of torque. The Ignis may also come with the Fiat souerced 1.3-litre 4-cylinder diesel mill that makes 90PS and 190Nm. Both these engines come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
After the Baleno and teh S-Cross, the Ignis would also be the third car to be sold under Maruti Suzuki's premium sub-brand Nexa.
